Everyone in a long and happy marriage will tell you their secret — from “don’t go to bed angry” to “make each other laugh” to “just nod and say yes honey, you’re right.”
But there is a secret sauce to a long and healthy marriage and it boils down to one word: change.
Dr. Steven Craig wrote a book on the topic and said marriages fail because people refuse to change. Couples change to rejuvenate their relationship. Instead of saying, “You knew what I was like when we got married,” try and become the spouse they have always wanted you to be. Craig says successful marriages “don’t happen because two people fall in love; they happen when two people fall in love over and over again with each other.”
