The world was first introduced to COVID-19, also known as Coronavirus, at the beginning of 2020. On going reports may suggest that the virus started a few months early at the end of 2019. The pandemic has sent the whole world into distress with many countries in a state of emergency, like India where they are currently experiencing a 21-day lockdown.
However, Corona and Covid were only just born into the world on March 27, 2020.
Preeti Verma gave birth to twins by Cesarean delivery after complications ensued shortly after reaching the hospital.
The parents told Press Trust of India that the names Corona and Covid were chosen to symbolize triumph over hardship.
Verma said the hospital staff started calling her son Corona and daughter Covid, according the India’s NDTV.
The parents may change their names later on, but wanted to make the day memorable. Despite already giving birth to twins during a lockdown because of the deathly threat of a global virus, to make the whole experience more memorable, the couple barely made it to the hospital.
Verma’s husband rushed his laboured wife to the hospital on a motorcycle passing through several checkpoints along the way. Forty-five minutes later, two healthy babies were welcomed into the world, despite their names.
Maybe Corona and Covid will inspire triumph over hardship after all.
