Threads launched on Wednesday, the newest social media app that gained its first one million users in just 90 minutes. That’s over 11 thousand people signing up per minute. It’s similar to Twitter and has been pitched by Meta bosses as a “friendly” alternative. Twitter’s Elon Musk said “Competition is fine, cheating is not” – but Meta denied claims in a legal letter that ex-Twitter staff helped create Threads.
Meanwhile, with the weirdest Rider Game, I’ve seen in some time in the background my wife and I did our own kind of scrolling getting familiar with the new Threads App to see what the hype is all about. Still too soon to form opinions, but first impressions have me a little hooked. After a couple of test drives Threads feels like Instagram, rides like Twitter and has added conveniences.
