A New Loonie will be out on August 15th!
Keep a close eye your pocket change in the coming weeks because this new Loonie is purple and pretty cool! The Royal Canadian Mint is releasing an Oscar Peterson $1 coin to celebrate the late Canadian jazz pianist. And it’s being dropped on his birthday!
The coin’s design shows Oscar Peterson playing the piano. It has a musical scale which reads part of his famous “Hymn to Freedom” — this is the song which became an anthem of the 1960s civil rights movement.
Some of these coins will have some purple on it and it was his favourite colour. There will be a limited number of these coins put into circulation; so better be on the lookout and hold onto it.
