DARIUS RUCKER is about halfway through his next album, which he hopes to have out early next year. This means he’s been working on it while going through his “uncoupling.” Is some of that in the album? Could be.
He says, quote, “This record, so far, has been so personal. I’m not done with what I want to say yet. [I’ve] been writing a lot of stuff. JIMMIE ALLEN and I wrote a really great song that I [recently] played on the Grand Ole Opry.
“It’s called ‘What I Didn’t Know I Was Missing’. It’s a really cool tune that means a lot to me.” Let’s take a look at that song. He sings about falling head-over-heels for someone, and how nothing in his life has come close to how he’s feeling right now.
Then there’s this lyric, quote, “God knew just what I needed, and he gave me what I didn’t know I was missing.” It’s not a stretch to think it’s a song about an affair, and well, something broke up his marriage. Or . . . we can blame the quarantine.
