Yesterday was the start of Round 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and it did not disappoint! Tampa Bay and Columbus, FIVE OVERTIMES! Yes that’s right, FIVE. Brayden Point (Tampa Bay) ended it with a goal at 10:27 in the fifth overtime making it the fourth longest game played in Stanley Cup Playoff History.
Hearing it was the fourth longest game, my curiosity got the best of me and I did some research about the other games that make up the Top Five, and let me tell you just looking at the numbers, has me exhausted.
5. April 24th, 2003 – Anaheim 4, Dallas 3, 80:48 of overtime
4. August 11th, 2020 – Tampa Bay 3, Columbus 2, 90:27 of overtime
3. May 4th, 2000 – Philadelphia 2, Pittsburgh 1, 92:01 of overtime
2. April 3rd, 1933 – Toronto 1, Boston 0, 104:46 of overtime
1. March 24th, 1936 – Detroit 1, Montreal Maroons 0, 116 minutes and 30 seconds of overtime
If this is what Day One of Playoffs gave us, I cannot wait to see what happens in the rest of Playoffs! I am a Vegas fan so the Golden Knights are my pick to win it all. Who do you think will be hoisting Lord Stanley?
