A number of northeast communities are set to receive funding for local infrastructure projects.
The Government of Saskatchewan, in conjunction with the Government of Canada, had announced over $50 million worth of funding going towards 55 projects in Saskatchewan.
“Through collaboration with our provincial and municipal partners, we are funding important infrastructure projects throughout Saskatchewan,” said Government of Canada’s Special Representative for the Prairies Jim Carr in a release. “With the COVID-19 Resilience Stream, we are also responding to the impacts of the pandemic through flexible and accelerated investments in key infrastructure upgrades as quickly as possible. The funding announced today will help communities build back better, create jobs, and build cleaner, more inclusive communities.”
Locally, Carrot River is set to receive $95,696 from the governments to go towards repairing, upgrading, and expanding their combined shower and pool house.
The Village of Englefeld will be receiving $151,388 for upgrades to their arena function room.
The Town of Kinistino will receive $4,282,472 to help construct a community centre that would house the town office, a hall to rent, daycare facilities, the library, and a potential medical clinic.
For the installation of new submersible pumps and associated works for flood prevention, the Resort Village of Manitou Beach will receive $263,988.
The Town of Nipawin is looking to add four permanent dressing rooms with showers and washrooms to their Jubilee Arena and will be getting $1,227,198 to assist in that project.
The Town of Wadena will be getting $277,026 to help with replacing the roof of their recreation centre.
And the Town of Watson is looking to do some work on their arena and are getting $223,677 to help with the upgrading and reparations of the roof, replacing the emergency exit doors, renovation to the ice resurfacer room, and purchase sanitization equipment.
“From Buffalo Narrows to Estevan, and dozens of communities in-between the Government of Saskatchewan’s $16.4-million investment in these 55 local infrastructure projects will not only help protect local economies, which are continuing to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Saskatchewan’s Government Relations Minister Don McMorris in a release. “But also help create safe, healthy and prosperous communities across the province.”
