The Aisle Seat: Home Edition series continues. What are YOU watching on Netflix, Crave, etc. while staying in and staying safe? Let us know, and perhaps we’ll review it next. Today’s review takes us to Amazon Prime, and the series, ‘Hunters’.
It’s easy to see what would draw a talent like Al Pacino to ‘Hunters’; with material like this, he gets to let loose his good old and slightly comical ‘Hoo-Waa!’ spirit, take a breath from scenery chewing when needed as he’s playing to his age with this role, and most importantly, rekindle a little of the ferocious kick-ass fire that he hasn’t exactly had the opportunity to unleash in a good decade or so.
‘Hunters’, executive produced by Jordan Peele is a sometimes goofy, often grisly, but ultimately slick series set in 1977 which follows an-almost super group (they ain’t the Avengers, but it DOES have that sort of vibe) of Nazi hunters, determined to seek out and destroy the war criminals of the Third Reich who have infiltrated American soil and are hiding out among average citizens.
Pacino plays Meyer Offerman, the leader of the offbeat group, a gang that includes a young comic book nerd (Logan Lerman), an FBI agent (Jerrika Hinton), a bickering but fun couple of weapons experts (Saul Rubinek and Carol Kane), a master of disguise (‘How I Met Your Mother’s Josh Radnor), and a nun/spy (Kate Mulvany), to name but a few.
‘Hunters’ is very much a grown up comic book come to life. If you enjoyed ‘Inglourious Basterds’, it’s your kind of deal…and really, with how hyper-violent this sucker gets, you’d swear Tarantino somehow got his mitts on this at some point. (He didn’t…..but it sure looks like it!)
