A&Ws all across Canada are donating $2 from every teen burger sold for Burgers to Beat MS Day today.
Included in the fundraising efforts at the A&W location in Humboldt, they are hosting a concert, car show and a variety of kids activities, today, Aug. 18, until closing.
General manager, Colleen Cornelius, told northeastNOW this day is something they look forward to every year.
“I think for some of my team members and for myself, we all know somebody with MS. MS has affected each and every one of us in one way or another and so I think today is important. It helps bring the community together while showing support for a great cause.”
This year’s goal is to raise $1.5 million nationally, which will add to the more than $17 million A&W has donated to the MS Society since the cause began.
Donations continue to help the MS Society fund research, support and services that are fundamental to changing lives.
Cornelius added days like these would be impossible without the citizens of Humboldt and the surrounding area.
With that in mind, they felt it was their time to give back.
“The community support is fantastic in Humboldt. I think it shows that A&W gives back to the community and that’s what the communities need. Without the community, we wouldn’t be here, because they’re the ones who make us stay open.”
According to the A&W website, “on average, 12 Canadians are diagnosed with MS every day.”
Canada also has one of the highest rates of MS globally, with over 90,000 Canadians living with the disease.
Cornelius mentioned whether it’s MS or another cause, their location is committed to helping those in need.
“We try to give back at least once a month to someone different in the community, whether it be a person or charity. Whatever the need is, our location tries to give to them on a need basis.”
Gabby Shukin will be on location from 4-7 p.m. on CJVR and Beach Radio.
Locations in Melfort, Tisdale, Nipawin and Humboldt are all open until 10 p.m. tonight, with donations also being accepted at the till.
