Man Shot By RCMP   ( 7/24/2008 )

A man in his 50s is recovering in hospital after being shot by Mounties near Mayfair.

Police fired three shots at the man yesterday after he refused to drop his knife following a high-speed chase.

Sergeant Carole Raymond says the pursuit began in Spiritwood a half hour earlier, when the officers responded to a complaint of an erratic driver in town.

The officers chased the driver 80 kilometres south to Mayfair.


Police Arrest PA Man for Allegedly Wielding Knife   ( 7/24/2008 )

A 33 year old man is in custody after being accused of wielding a knife in Prince Albert.

At about 8:30 last night, police were called to the 100 block of 11th Street West for a report of a man wielding a knife.

A man fitting the description was spotted heading toward the river bank.

He then ran from police and jumped in the river.

The man was then rescued from the river by police, and taken to hospital as a precaution.

He had an outstanding warrant for threats and will now face more charges.


Forest Fire Update   ( 7/24/2008 )

Rain, rain go away!

Thats not what officials from the Provincial Forest Fire Program are saying.

Spokesperson Jeannette Krayetski says the rain has been welcome for reducing the risk province wide.

Krayetski also gave us an update on the northern fires saying good progress has been made.

She said 60% of the fires have been contained.
